A Taban Air Tu 154 jetliner carrying more than 150 pax/crew on board ran off the runway shortly after blind landing in thick fog. All on board managed to evacuate the plane on the verge of disaster seconds before it caught fire. According to the local resources no fatal casualty has been reported yet. However more that 40 people injured have been receiving treatment so far.
The aircraft had already been bounded to Mashhad from Abandon before it was diverted to Isfahan due to insufficient visibility in Mashhad Airport last night. This morning it departed from Isfahan for the second attempt to reach Mashhad while the visibility was 2000 meters. As the aircraft reached Mashhad final approach, the visibility declined to less than 200 meters. But the presence of a passenger on board who was in need of immediate medical assistance forced the Captain to take the life threatening decision of approaching on ILS CATI with insufficient visibility. Eventually, this led to the aircraft touching down in the vicinity of the runway and due to the unpaved surface, the aircraft received severe damage which caused the disaster
